StrongerU Senior Fitness is excited to invite Mount Royal University Health and Physical Education Students to apply for our student sponsorship program. The StrongerU Senior Fitness Student Sponsorship Program pairs students from programs such as Health and Physical Education, Kinesiology, Gerontology, Therapeutic Recreation, and more, with senior-serving organizations such as senior centres and retirement communities. Mount Royal University Health and Physical Education has been paired with the Good Companions 50 Plus Club, whose mission is to promote heightened quality of 50 plus life through education, recreation, and wellness activities in an environment fostering fun, social interaction, and community involvement safe and accessible to all. Two students will be selected from the applicant pool to receive free access to the StrongerU Senior Fitness Online Instructor Course and a one year subscription to the StrongerU Senior Fitness Series which provides instructors with 30 minutes of new StrongerU Senior Fitness class content each month. In exchange, the successful applicants will volunteer their time teaching the 30-minute StrongerU Fitness Program weekly at Good Companions 50 Plus Club in Calgary from July to December 2020.
Complete the online StrongerU Senior Fitness Instructor Course. Typically takes between 8-16 hours. The course is completed at your own pace, but must be completed by May 1st 2020.
Learn your first 30-minutes of StrongerU Senior Fitness content between May 2nd and June 30th
Team-teach weekly with the other sponsorship recipient on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. at the Good Companions 50 Plus Club weekly from July to December 2020 (approximately 24- thirty minute classes).
Students gain valuable experience.
The host organization is able to offer a high quality-low cost fitness program to the seniors they serve.
