Aging and Technology

Two months ago, StrongerU Senior Fitness had the pleasure of presenting as a finalist as part of the AGE-WELL NCE National Impact Challenge in Vancouver. AGE-WELL stands for "Aging Gracefully across Environments using Technology to Support Wellness, Engagement and Long Life". AGE-WELL is dedicated to the creation of technologies and services that benefit older adults and caregivers to maintain their independence, health and quality of life through technologies and services that increase their safety and security, support their independent living, and enhance their social participation. We had an opportunity to stand beside four incredible and innovative companies featuring pain relieving Virtual Reality, a swallowing therapy device, smart stove nobs, and AI-enabled home monitoring. Needless to say, it was an honour to be included as part of this group.

Next Tuesday, September 24th, we will have the opportunity to pitch at Aging 2.0 Vancouver’s Global Innovation Showcase in partnership with the BC Seniors’ Living Associations annual conference in Whistler BC. Aging2.0 strives to accelerate innovation to address the biggest challenges and opportunities in aging. The Global Innovation Showcase is an opportunity for aging-focused innovators around the world to pitch their product or service and gain international exposure. Pitch events are hosted by Aging2.0 Chapters across six continents. Once again we are humbled to be included in a group that includes technologies to reduce social isolation and support brain health, a motorized scooter than collapses to the size of a backpack, and AI-enabled monitoring.

A recent survey by AGE-WELL shows “that more than 8 in 10 Canadians over the age of 65 believe technological advances can help older adults stay safe, in their own homes longer and stay independent. And, 7 in 10 agree that technological advancements can help older adults stay active and manage health better as they age and can reduce social isolation.”

At StrongerU Senior Fitness we don’t use robots or AI, instead, our focus has been creating knowledge accessibility though our online learning platform and class content. Our course allows anyone, anywhere to have access to a high quality seniors fitness course. As Canada’s first pre-choreographed Senior Fitness Series, we provide our instructors subscribed to the StrongerU Senior Fitness Series with 30-minutes of new content monthly through an instructional video and choreography notes. Our goal is to empower instructors with the tools to teach a quality, safe, and effective classes for the seniors they serve. Technology solutions have made many things we do easier, but sometimes the most effective solution is still the simplest.
