StrongerU’s Monthly Engagement Toolkit: June 2026

Celebration, Inclusion, and Shared Experiences!

June arrives with a sense of openness. Temperatures rise, energy increases, and there’s a natural readiness for social connection. For many communities, June also brings graduations, family visits, and opportunities to celebrate both people and milestones.

June is an ideal time to lean into programs that feel joyful, inclusive, and community-building. This month’s ideas are designed to help you create shared experiences that foster confidence, participation, and belonging.

At StrongerU, we believe meaningful programming is rooted in intentional design, meeting people where they are, and encouraging connection in ways that feel welcoming.

June 2026 Engagement Inspiration: Celebrate & Share

1. Social Connection & Summer Kickoff Events: June is a great time to reintroduce social gatherings and outdoor-friendly programs.

  • Summer Welcome Social: Light refreshments, music, and conversation on the patio or courtyard.

  • Patio Chats & Refreshment Hours: Casual, drop-in gatherings. Instead of a structured staff run program, consider leaving out puzzles, trivia sheets, and conversation prompts for residents to engage with more casually.

  • Music & Memory Socials: Summer-themed playlists and storytelling

Engagement tip: Offer both structured and unstructured seating to support different comfort levels.

2. Men’s Programming: June is Men’s Health Month. A great opportunity to do a review of male programming opportunities and engagement.

  • Woodworking: Men really appreciate programs that have an end goal. Building bird houses is an awesome opportunity to work with their hands and create something. Partner with local grade schools to paint the houses.

  • Game-Based Movement: Bowling, target toss, or modified sports

3. Inclusion, Belonging & Pride Celebrations: June is Pride Month, offering opportunities for reflection, inclusion, and humanity without making anyone feel pressured or politicized. Many older adults have lived through enormous cultural change, and some LGBTQ+ seniors may have spent much of their lives hiding parts of themselves. Focus on dignity, belonging, and celebration of identity.

  • Stories of Courage & Identity: A meaningful discussion and storytelling program that invites participants to reflect on the experiences, values, and moments that helped shape who they are. Facilitate discussion through conversation prompts, music, photos, or quotes and encourage residents to share stories of resilience, personal growth, family traditions, milestones, and defining life experiences in a supportive and respectful environment. This program celebrates individuality, encourages connection, and reinforces a sense of identity, belonging, and purpose.

    • Breaking the Ice: Start with a simple, low-pressure prompt such as:

      • “Where did you grow up?”

      • “What is something people may not know about you?”

      • “What’s a song that reminds you of your younger years?” (Option: play the song and encourage others to share memories they may have of the song too. Fosters shared connection.

    • Going deeper: Use 1–2 prompts at a time and allow conversation to flow naturally:

      • Courage & Resilience

        • A challenge you overcame

        • A moment you were proud of yourself

        • A time you had to adapt or start over

      • Identity & Life Experience

        • Traditions that shaped you

        • What family meant growing up

        • A job or role that influenced who you became

        • Advice you would give your younger self

      • Connection & Belonging

        • A friendship that impacted your life

        • A place where you felt you belonged

        • Someone who inspired you

  • Music Through the Decades: Celebrating diverse voices and stories. An opportunity to celebrate influential LGBTQ+ artists and cultural icons through music and storytelling.

    • Possible artists:

      • Elton John

      • Freddie Mercury

      • Judy Garland

      • George Michael

4. Special Dates, Themes and other Highlights

Not every holiday, awareness day, or themed day needs a program or event attached to it. Thoughtful programming isn’t about keeping up with every date on the calendar, it’s about choosing what truly aligns with your group, your team’s capacity, and your community’s values.

Quality over quantity isn’t a shortcut. It’s a good practice to maintain your capacity and to continue to do amazing things for your group. When we give ourselves permission to say no to some things, we create space to do less things with more impact.

Below is an overview of June holidays, awareness days, and special events:

5. StrongerU’s Movement Moments: StrongerU’s Movement Moments are brief movement-based activities designed to help increase energy, connection, and participation. It’s not about exercise intensity—it’s about creating an inviting start to a program. Movement Moments can be done seated or standing and work well at the beginning, or middle, of any activity, class, or social event.

Access the Movement Moment for June and receive alerts every time there is a new Movement Moment here.

StrongerU’s Movement Moments can be integrated:

  • At the start of a morning program

  • During a break in a class or workshop

  • As a playful energizer before a social event

Movement Moments are meant to be short, simple, and adaptable for all abilities—helping your group feel more open, connected, and energized.

This month’s Movement Moment features an upper body strengthening track from one of our StrongerU Strength classes.
