Welcoming Energy, Possibility, and Connection!
March brings a noticeable shift. The days grow longer, energy begins to lift, and there’s a natural sense of possibility in the air. March is an opportunity to build on current programming favorites as well as to introduce programs that feel fresh, motivating, and forward-looking.
At StrongerU, we know that small shifts in programming can create big changes in engagement. This month’s ideas are designed to help you refresh your calendar while continuing to foster inclusion, purpose, and connection without adding complexity to your workload.
March 2026 Engagement Inspiration: Fresh Starts & Forward Momentum

“On the Street Where You Live” – Nat King Cole
“When You Wish Upon a Star” – Cliff Edwards
“Some Enchanted Evening” – Perry Como

Conversation prompts about favorite spring memories:
What is your very first memory of spring as a child?
(Was it a smell, a sound, something you saw?)
Did your family have any special spring traditions?
(Easter, gardening, spring cleaning, May Day baskets?)
What did springtime mean at your house or in your neighborhood?
(Planting season, baseball starting, washing windows, hanging laundry outside?)
Do you remember a favorite spring outfit you loved to wear?
(Easter dress, new shoes, hats, gloves?)
What flowers remind you most of spring?
(Lilacs, tulips, daffodils, peonies — and where did you see them?)
Did you ever fall in love in the spring?
(First crush, spring dance, prom, courting days?)
What sounds tell you it’s finally spring?
(Birds, rain on the roof, kids playing outside?)
Did you help with gardening or planting growing up? What did you grow?
What was your favorite spring meal or treat?
(Hot cross buns, fresh rhubarb pie, early strawberries?)
If you could step back into one perfect spring day from your life, what would be happening?
Floral arranging with artificial or fresh flowers: Reach out to local funeral homes (or other large venues that may receive large amounts of flowers for one-off occasions with no use for them after) and provide them with your name and contact information to be contacted if they have flowers left behind that will be thrown away. This can make for a fabulous impromptu floral arranging activity.
Mocktails or herbal teas inspired by spring flavors:
Strawberry Lemon Sparkler
How: Lemonade + muddled strawberries + splash of sparkling water
Garnish: Lemon wheel + mint leaf
Cucumber Mint Refresher
How: Cucumber slices + fresh mint + lemon + cold water or soda water
Optional: Touch of honey
Orange Blossom Fizz
How: Orange juice + splash of cranberry for color + sparkling water
Pineapple Ginger Cooler
How: Pineapple juice + ginger ale
Optional: Tiny squeeze of lime
Engagement tip: Invite residents to help name the series or choose the music. Sense of purpose and ownership increases participation.
2. Creative Renewal Workshops: Offer creative outlets that align with the themes of renewal and possibility.
Vision boards (past, present, or future focused)
You could have some fun with ChatGPT by having residents describe their past, present, or future-focused “board” and then let ChatGPT do its magic to bring the themes to life.
Watercolor or mixed-media art sessions
Sign up for a free trial of Artfull Enrichment to access a huge array of programs and activities including printable and digital art tutorials, word games, creative writing exercises, history presentations, drawing projects, live virtual workshops, artist talks and so much more.
Poetry or journaling circles around the theme “What Brings Me Energy”:
Offer 3–4 prompts below from each section to inspire their poetry or journalling with the option to share at the end if they feel comfortable:
Gentle Prompts
What is something simple that always lifts your mood?
Who in your life gives you energy just by being around them?
What time of day do you feel most alive?
What season gives you the most energy — and why?
What activity makes you lose track of time?
Deeper Reflection Prompts
When in your life did you feel the most energized?
What work (paid or unpaid) made you feel purposeful?
What music instantly changes your mood?
What smells, tastes, or sounds wake something up inside of you?
If I want more energy in my life, I could…
Acrostic Poem (Using the Word ENERGY)
Example you can read aloud:
E – Early morning sunshine
N – Neighbors who wave
E – Every grandchild's hug
R – Rain on the window
G – Gardens coming alive
Y – Years of good memories
Engagement tip: Encourage the group that there is no “right way” to participate. Even just sitting and listening may be a powerful form of engagement for some. Always make verbal sharing optional.
3. Special Dates, Themes and other Highlights
Not every holiday, awareness day, or themed day needs a program or event attached to it. Thoughtful programming isn’t about keeping up with every date on the calendar, it’s about choosing what truly aligns with your group, your team’s capacity, and your community’s values.
Quality over quantity isn’t a shortcut. It’s a good practice to maintain your capacity and to continue to do amazing things for your group. When we give ourselves permission to say no to some things, we create space to do less things with more impact.
Below is an overview of March holidays, awareness days, and special events:
March 1 – National Nutrition Month begins
March 1 – National Plant a Flower Day – Check out Root In Nature’s upcoming Mini-Conference.
March 3 – World Hearing Day

4. StrongerU’s Movement Moments: StrongerU’s Movement Moments are brief movement-based activities designed to help increase energy, connection, and participation. It’s not about exercise intensity—it’s about creating an inviting start to a program. Movement Moments can be done seated or standing and work well at the beginning, or middle, of any activity, class, or social event.
Access the Movement Moment for March and receive alerts every time there is a new Movement Moment here.
StrongerU’s Movement Moment can be integrated:
At the start of a morning program
During a break in a class or workshop
As a playful energizer before a social event
Movement Moments are meant to be short, simple, and adaptable for all abilities—helping your group feel more open, connected, and energized.
This month’s Movement Moment features a Getting Energized track from our DROM for Seniors programming.
Looking Ahead
Each month, this toolkit will continue to offer:
Seasonal and themed program ideas
Special event inspiration
Engagement strategies that work across care levels
One featured Movement Moment you can drop into any program
Our hope is that this becomes a resource you return to again and again—saving time, sparking creativity, and supporting meaningful engagement in your community.
Here’s to a March filled with fresh energy and meaningful connection!
Always here cheering you on!
